will the real anime protagonist please stand up

[ ah, it's sunny out...

you know, as i get older i realize the days just start to blur together. i can't really tell one day from the next 'cause it's all the same to me. i do the same things over and over again that everything i do has lost meaning to it.

i wake up, i eat breakfast, i go to school, come home from school, sit around and play some games while i do my homework, eat dinner somewhere along the way and i go to sleep.

and then it repeats, just like that, every day. and it's been like this for, what, i dunno -- half of my life? and then this is just going to keep on going for... however long i'm alive for. it's really boring, isn't it? living that kind of life.

which is why, right at this moment, i sigh heavily. before me stands perhaps the greatest obstacle of my day: a hill that i must climb in order to reach the school campus.

ugh, anything but this...

it's true, this route could easily be avoided -- if i wake up early enough, i could take the longer way around, or if i had a bicycle i could just bike my way up the hill, or if i had friends who lived in my neighborhood, they could walk up with me and it wouldn't be so boring.

except it's all too much trouble and i'd rather not waste my time. it's going to be more work to figure out an alternative. best not to prolong the inevitable, either -- i'm going to have to climb this hill for the next two years of my life anyway.

it's way too early for this.

i take my first step -- left foot first -- and just as my foot is about to hit the ground, my right foot just about to push off to take the next step, something odd happens. it takes me by surprise and i stumble, losing my balance after not even one single step and i fall to the ground, my ass meeting the pavement that i would have been treading along had things... gone to plan, i guess.

something rustles from the bushes to my right, and within a moment's notice something i've never seen before comes out from it. a dark puddle or blob or something moves to the left, a little, then to the right. it stops, moves forward and then moves back... and looks right at me.

what the hell is going on right now? why is it looking at me? shit --

why is this happening to me? ]

[ Her body wretches and then she shoots forward, moves several meters close to Aki but keeps herself at a distance. She has to restrain. She has to, but it's hard and it hurts everything hurts

She lets out another cry, her arm shooting out to reach for Aki, as if she's standing right here. She breathes raggedly.

Her eyes are wide and bloodshot, and her hair's a mess and the ribbon - the ribbon is in tatters. There have been signs of a struggle from elsewhere.

The girl's body isn't moving at all. And with how Ayase is acting... The girl is probably all drained. ]

Please... Please get away, Aki-chaa... Aki-chan! [ Her body shakes, arms shaking. She moves closer to Aki. Close enough to be within arm's reach ]

[... She's dead. Aki deduces that pretty quickly - she's seen corpses, sadly.]

... I'm sorry. [Aki raises the revolver, clicks it out of safety, and...

... Tosses it aside.]

Please. It's me you want, right? I couldn't - I couldn't kill anyone, but especially not you.

[She takes a step closer.]

So just take me. Do whatever you like - just don't hurt anyone but me. Please.

[ There's a scream, a screech that echoes into the night and Ayase has her arms around Aki. A hand grabs at Aki's neck, the other wrapped around her waist.

Ayase's face changes from sad to anger to pain to despair and back to sad and the cycle goes on.

Her mouth latches onto the side of Aki's neck, there's no build up or lead in to this. It just happens. Her teeth bite into her skin and she sucks blood out of Aki like she's the only one she wants blood from.

Whether it's because of the newly attained dead apostle abilities or not, blood drips and falls from the corners of her eyes. Like crying. ]

[Aki winces - fangs piercing flesh, blood being drained.

She reaches up - Ayase's ribbon.]

You've gone and gotten it all worn out, Ayase...

[She bears the pain. She'd bear it all and more for her.]

Nngh... [Aki groans, moans in a way that's distinctly sexual. It hurts, but there's something overtaking her. It scares her. She wraps her arms around Ayase, holds her closer.]

I... it hurts, Ayase... haaa... this isn't your fault, okay? No matter... no matter what happens, I know you can beat this... even if you kill me, I know you can find some way to live... just don't kill anyone else, please...

[ Ayase cries.

Her fangs move away and her mouth is no longer on Aki's lips, but her eyes are wide and they stare at Aki's face, unwavering.

She lets out another cry. Her hands grasp Aki's shoulders tightly, almost too tight, and she looks like she's in so much pain. Not from the vampirism but from the despair knowing that she's just turned her best friend into a monster like her.

She cries. ]

Aki... Aki-chan... [ She sobs. She doesn't mean to but her fangs bare, and for a moment she shakes and wriggles to get out of the grasp ] Aki-chan! [ She sobs, again, her hands squeezing more at Aki's shoulders ] I'm sorry! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry --

Ha, ha, haaa...

[Aki's eyes are dull. SHe flinches, groans, moans, then thrusts her hips up into nothing.]

I told you it wasn't your fault... gah...

Ayase, when you turned, was it - was there this burning? In the... pit of your stomach? [Aki bites down on her own lip, feels the blood flowing out of her. She licks it up.]

It doesn't hurt... there's just this need... is that normal? Haha... I even suck at being a vampire, huh?

[ She lets out a breath, repeats "I'm sorry" over and over again, feels the thrust of Aki's hips against her for the briefest moment and Ayase reacts to it on impulse. Her hips thrust back.

And then she calms down for a moment, the burning in her chest and the pounding in her head stop and it's quiet. She blinks, and... ]

The need gets stronger. [ Ayase's breathing is a little more even, now. Her eyes are glossed over, but there's something different about them now than earlier. Like they're more calculating ]

Do you feel it? In your stomach. The pounding in your head.

[Aki breathes heavily, sobs a little.]

It's not your fault. [And that's the last thing Aki ever says as a human - she feels herself fall back, clutching at her stomach through her shirt, weeping and shaking.

She needs. She needs something. She isn't sure what. Food. Blood. Sex. Power. Anything.]

I... it hurts... how do I make it stop, Ayase? [She clutches at her head. Much more composed than Ayase was - after all, Ayase's here. Ayase's here to lead her, to help her through this.]

Blood? Sex? Killing? What? Please, tell me what'll make it go away...

[ One of Ayase's hand reaches back, rubs the small of Aki's back. Her other one moves to cup her cheek, then her fingers take her chin. ]

It'll go away. You just need to satisfy your thirst. Do you want blood? Do you want sex?

[ Ayase licks her lips, tongue just poking against her sharpened teeth. She smiles. ]

I will give you whatever you want, Aki-chan.

Ever... everything. Blood and sex. Both.

[Aki gulps, feels herself squirming under Ayase's touch. Their situations are reversed - Aki is completely under Ayase's control. She needs what Ayase can give her. If Ayase cut her off, she'd die.

Maybe that isn't so different after all, huh?]

From you? Or from someone else? Girl. We should. Only get girls. [Suddenly killing doesn't seem so bad - they're not Ayase, after all. They aren't important. Why did she care so much about inconsequential people, anyway? Her mercy - sparing some pathetic creature because she figured he was just as much a victim as anyone else - got them into this. That same creature did something terrible. He hurt Ayase. He hurt everyone. He ruined them.

Or maybe he made them better. Either way - killing only matters if it's someone good. Or pure. Or important. Random civilians aren't important. Not in the grand scheme of things.]

[ Her eyes glimmer in mirth. Aki is getting used to the firey burning in her stomach and the pounding in her head, and it's all thanks to her, right?

It's all thanks to Ayase that Aki is doing fine now.

She leans in, lips searching Aki's, fangs biting down on Aki's bottom lip. They can sate the desire for blood and lust here and go out to kill someone afterwards ]

I don't want to take too much from you. I need. I need a lot.

[She glances up at the house. Apartment. Mm.]

Haa... there. I can... [Aki moans slightly, returns the kiss.]

I can smell people. Lots of them. A virgin. You can sort that smell out from the rest, right?

[ They're standing in front of a house. It's a nice one, too -- they've got a caught lawn, fenced off from the others, a flower bed along the side of the house. All the lights are off, of course, it's the middle of the night after all. She can smell three sleeping people in there.

She licks her lips. ]

Don't you want the girl all to yourself? I was just going to take the parents' blood and dispose of them.
